The Best Kept Secret in the Neighborhood Isn't private - It's PUBLIC.
Friends of Canfield is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that supports, enhances and enriches the educational environment of Canfield Elementary. Friends of Canfield raises money to supplement staffing and resources not provided by LAUSD; funds extracurricular programs and activities; recruits parent volunteers; and celebrates our diversity by creating events that bring our community together.
Friends of Canfield (FOC) is managed by a volunteer 13-member Board of Directors. The Board represents the best interests of our students and the parent community in maintaining excellence throughout the elementary school experience. The Board meets monthly to discuss how to raise revenue for the school and how to best spend that money to support the students, teachers and staff at Canfield. Board members work with school administrators and staff to achieve these goals and make Canfield a better public elementary school. The Board openly discusses all ideas and programs that may enhance the educational experience for all students current and future. The Board also works to involve all members of the Canfield community in order to identify and use the skills and talents available in our school community to achieve our goals. Funding from the LA Unified School District is not sufficient to support many of the programs that we believe are critical to the quality of our children’s education. The money that you contribute by supporting our fundraising efforts, and the time you spend volunteering, directly benefits all Canfield students. Friends of Canfield is pleased to support these Programs and Activities
for the 2012-2013 School Year.
Teacher’s Aides
These critical positions support the teachers by handling many administrative tasks, enabling our teachers to focus on educational issues. FOC raises the money to pay the salaries of 8-10 teacher’s aides per school year.
P. E. Coach
Full funding for this position enables our children to benefit from this valuable program.
Smart Boards
Smart Board systems have been purchased and are maintained for each classroom in grades K-5. These interactive tools support and enhance Canfield’s curriculum.
SHINE
The SHINE Mentoring Alliance trains dedicated volunteers to support the work of Canfield's teachers and the growth of Canfield's children by delivering special attention to children one-on-one, in small groups or as an entire class.
Poetry In Motion and Poetry Café
A series of in-class poetry workshops conducted with two grades per year culminating with the students performing their work for the community.
School Library
The Library was built/created in 2003 with funds raised by Friends of Canfield and we continue to provide support to enrich and expand the Library
Field Trips
Each class has the opportunity to take several field trips a year to enrich their understanding about subjects they are studying. Friends of Canfield supports the student body in their efforts to raise the funds that help support field trips.
Spring Musical
Over 150 students each year learn about theater and present an outstanding theatrical presentation every spring.
Family Dance
A fun evening of food and dance and a chance for our community to get to know each other.
Green Team
Students, teachers, staff and parents working to create a sustainable eco-system on our campus by working on issues including conservation, and recycling.
Beautification Day
Several times a year, Canfield families donate their time and work together to improve our school’s grounds.
Arts Prototype Office Support
The lease and maintenance contract for the equipment used by teachers to copy class work and homework assignments for students, as well as the necessary paper and ink, are funded annually.

We communicate with parents and students about upcoming events via the weekly Canfield Update, and via our website, www.friendsofcanfield.org

We are pleased that we have been able to fund these programs this year and we hope that this information has helped everyone understand the importance of continuing to fund these programs. To meet these challenges we need the participation and support of all parents and students.
We look forward to working with all of you to maintain the excellent educational environment and positive community spirit of Canfield Elementary.
